How to Find a Long-Term Rental in Cyprus
One of the first challenges of moving to Cyprus that you’ll face is securing a place to live. If you’re not ready to buy, renting long-term is a great option, and in many cases, it’s surprisingly easy to arrange from abroad.
There is often less red tape and fewer checks than in other countries like the UK.
In my case, I arranged everything through a Cyprus-based property management and rentals agency that had been recommended to me. They accepted a deposit to hold the property and the tenancy agreement was signed once I arrived — no credit checks or complicated paperwork involved.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through how the long-term rental market works in Cyprus, where to look, what to watch out for and how to find a place from abroad with confidence.
Do Most People Rent When Moving to Cyprus?
Yes, at least to begin with.
Even if you’re planning to buy later, many new arrivals rent for the first 6–12 months to get a feel for different areas.
It’s a good way to explore places like Paphos, Limassol, Nicosia, or Larnaca before committing. Renting also gives you flexibility if your visa, work, or residency situation is still being finalised.
How to Search for Rentals from the UK
Here are your best options for finding long-term rentals before you arrive:
1. Online Portals & Letting Agents
Tip: Many rentals are not listed on big global portals like Rightmove Overseas or Zoopla, so local sites are essential.
2. Letting Agents
You can contact Cypriot estate agents directly. Some specialise in working with expats and may be able to do video tours or help with paperwork.
Look for English speaking agents in the town you’re interested in. In touristy or expat-heavy areas, this is rarely an issue.
3. Word of Mouth / Local Boards
Once you arrive, you’ll find plenty of listings on shop windows, community boards and even tacked up at the supermarket. But for pre-move planning, it’s better to go digital.

Cons:
If possible, book a short-term rental (Airbnb or hotel) for 1–2 weeks while you search in person.
